I began my obsession with fly fishing after I had moved to Florida to fish and became rather handy with a spinning rod. I decided that I needed a greater challenge for myself, and I certainly found that. Once I started down that path, there wasn’t any going back. I’ve always had a strong desire to travel and explore the world, but to do so in the interest of learning about other cultures and how people live. I knew that many local and indigenous people had great needs, which were only amplified after COVID had reduced any tourism that previously existed. I started to choose guides who were local or employed the local/indigenous people in an effort to help raise the financial prospects of these communities.
I’d recently chosen a different sort of lifestyle for myself in which I spent more time abroad than I did in my own home. I’ve always had to work full time and so this meant hopping on a plane more than once a month. In my spare time, I was always researching my next fishing location. I had always invited others to join me on my travels, but my friends and family often didn’t have any interest or their schedules wouldn’t allow it. I realized that if I waited for group trips to materialize, I wouldn’t go to half the places I wanted to see. As a solo female fly angler, I quickly learned that it can become quite expensive if you stay at lodges and have to pay double occupancy rates. I also found that many male groups of anglers do not get excited about a young solo female joining their well established group. For this reason, I was forced to become creative in my travels and research became second nature to me. I have been fortunate to form some great friendships and new alliances through my efforts, and thus, this website was created.
For me, fly fishing has been a source of purpose and rejuvenation that has permanently changed my life. It is my desire that this website allow more options for others to pursue their fly fishing goals and maybe realize that the trip they thought was only a dream can be possible. In the process, I’d also like to ensure that our business helps those who need it most and ideally have an emphasis on conservation.
